"A man who wants to lead an orchestra
must turn his back on the crowd," reads a hand-written
quote on the door of Kyle Hayes' practice room in the Siegel
High School band room.
"I have my own practice room,"
said Kyle, a senior. "It has pictures and stuff in
it, too, because I live in there." Continued...

Schneider
Electric Awards MYO Grant
The Murfreesboro
Youth Orchestra is the proud
recipient of a grant from Schneider Electric this season!
We used these funds to purchase a much-needed Mobile Percussion
Case that you will notice on our stage this season! This
custom-made case will house the orchestra’s percussion
equipment from now on, making it easily transportable to
all of our Educational Outreach concerts and other events
away from MTSU.
In addition to this donation, Schneider
North America has pledged $1 million to support Hurricane
Katrina relief efforts in Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi
and Florida’s Broward and Miami-Dade counties. In
addition, donations to these efforts from its employees
in the United States will be matched by the Square D Foundation.
Schneider Electric is also a strong supporter of Habitat
for Humanity and The United Nations Refugee Agency. The
Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra
greatly appreciates their generosity!
MYO
Educational Outreach Tour 2005
Each year Murfreesboro
Youth Orchestra musicians take great pride in introducing
young students to the joys of music through their in-school
performances. This will be the MYO’s
seventh year to travel in the Middle Tennessee region to
perform concerts designed to educate as well as entertain.
On Tuesday, December 9, 2005 our orchestra will give performances
in Coffee County at Bel-Aire Elementary, East Lincoln
Elementary, and West Middle School at no cost to
the students. The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra has introduced
approximately 10,000 children, ages 4-18, to live orchestral
performances!
With MYO
musicians’ ages ranging from 9-18 years, our youth
orchestra is unique in its ability to provide inspirational
role models for the students in the schools we visit. Audiences
learn about the four sections of the orchestra in their
school setting through orchestra demonstrations as well
as audience participation. Our fast-paced program includes
performances of both popular and classical music which brings
students a greater appreciation of our world’s many
diverse cultures. We inspire and encourage kids to get personally
involved in music in their schools and in their community.
The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra
believes that every student should have access to live music,
and we are doing our part to ensure just that. This program
is made possible through a grant to the Tullahoma City Schools
from The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
